Bruny Island Discovery

THE GOURMET ISLAND

With the D’entrecasteaux Channel on one side and the Tasman Sea on the other, Bruny Island is extremely diverse - rich with local produce and an abundance of native wildlife.

The island itself is fairly narrow, stretching roughly 100kms north to south.

It’s reached by a short 25-minute drive from Hobart to the small town of Kettering, where the Mirambeena ferry takes local and visiting vehicle traffic over to the island, daily.

Edge of the World Tours offer fully guided, all-inclusive camping tours for our guests.

Keeping with our trademark theme “access the inaccessible” we will take you to places on the island not normally accessible to mainstream tourism.  Guests can also expect to experience Bruny Islands renowned gourmet industry as well the islands famous landmarks.

Highlights: 4x4 experience, remote camping, walks, wildlife, local produce and boutique industries.

DAY 1

Your journey begins with collection from your Hobart accommodation, when we leave the morning traffic behind and head for the sleepy town of Kettering.

Following a quick coffee stop, it’s all aboard the Mirambeena ferry for the short crossing to Bruny Island.

From here we traverse the coastline, driving through local properties rich with Tasmanian history. With a bit of luck, you might even be treated to some stories from a local Aboriginal elder.

We then move south, stopping at landmarks such as The Neck, Adventure Bay, Alonnah and the South Bruny Lookout – all of which have their own tales to tell.

In a perfect finish to a big day we explore the southern edge of the island, making our way to Cloudy Bay. Here guests have the opportunity to walk along the rugged and beautiful Cloudy Bay Beach to Cloudy Corner, which will be our camp for the night.

DAY 2

After a relaxed start to the morning and a hearty cooked breakfast, guests have the opportunity for many short walks around the area to Cape Bruny, Bruny Lighthouse, Mable Bay and Lagoons Beach.

We then head north to sample some of the local specialties, stopping at various boutique industries catering for all tastes.

Among the fine food and beverage options: The Bruny Island Providore, Bruny Island Cheese co., Bruny Island Premium Wines, Get Shucked Oysters and the Bruny Island Smokehouse.

With your appetite satisfied it’s now time to head home. Guests can expect to be safely back in Hobart by late afternoon.
